COVID-19 transmission level LOW - face masks not required inside Patterson Health Center
COVID-19 UPDATE:
October 31, 2022:
Patients who come to Patterson Health Center are allowed to unmask while COVID-19 transmission rates are low.
However, patients and staff who have respiratory symptoms must continue to mask at all times. Respiratory symptoms include a cough, sneezing and a stuffy or runny nose.
The COVID-19 transmission rates will be tracked each week to determine whether Harper County has a low, substantial/moderate, or high community transmission level. The status will be communicated through signage at the entrances of PHC, as well as on the Facebook page.
The following status markers will indicate whether patients and employees must wear a facemask:
Green - This indicates a low transmission level. While in the green level, masks are not required unless the patient or staff member has respiratory symptoms.
Yellow - This indicates a substantial/moderate level. While in the yellow level, masks are not required, but they are recommended. Anyone with respiratory symptoms are required to mask.
Red - This indicates high community transmission. While in the red level, procedural masks will be worn by all patients, visitors and employees.
Some patients may still be screened for COVID-19 before entering the building.
PHC continues to follow guidance from Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
Continue to follow the PHC Facebook page for masking updates and more.
Feb. 15, 2022:
Effective Feb. 15, 2022, screening is no longer required at the front entrance to Patterson Health Center. Until further notice, screening is still required in the hospital and emergency room.
Also, the cafe is open for business. Restrictions have been removed from the number of people allowed at the tables.
Face masks are still required inside Patterson Health Center, unless you are at a table in the cafe.
Our medical staff will continue to determine the best process for patients who might have a risk of COVID-19. Patients still need to continue with current COVID-19 precautions, and restrictions can be reimplemented at any time.
COVID-19 screening will also continue from 8-9 a.m. Monday through Friday at the COVID-19 testing cottage.
* Free rapid tests are back! We can swab you and your results will be available within 20-25 minutes. Stick around in a parking spot or we will give you a call.
* Free PCR tests are the most accurate option. These tests are taken by a throat swab. We send them to a lab, and you will get your result between 1-3 days.
* Free take-home tests - grab a box while supplies last. One box is available per family, so drive by and get one.
If you need to test at another time, please call (620) 914-1200.
Jan. 28, 2022:
Starting Monday, Jan. 31, we will resume free COVID-19 testing from 8-9 a.m. Monday through Friday in the COVID testing cottage. The tests will not be a rapid test like we've had in the past. They will be an oralpharyngeal PCR (a throat swab) and results will be back in 3 days or less.
Please drive counter clockwise around the circle drive and pull up to the window. We will swab you from there. We will contact you with your results.
Thank you for your patience as we work through our testing supply shortage.
Jan. 21, 2022:
Patterson Health Center is joining other hospitals across the state in halting its COVID-19 infusion treatment.
According to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, 98 percent of reported cases in the state are the result of the Omicron variant. Infusion treatments like Regeneron have proven ineffective against the Omicron variant. Regeneron treatments used at PHC have helped reduce severe symptoms for other variants of COVID-19.
An oral medication that is effective against Omicron is in the early stages of being released, but it is not yet available in the area.
The good news is that Omicron tends to have less severe symptoms for most people.
Dr. Ethan Leavitt, DO, said the most effective treatment is getting the COVID-19 vaccination. He has seen positive results in patients who have received the vaccine.
"Don't wait," he said. "It may not prevent COVID-19, but your symptoms will be less severe."
To receive a COVID-19 vaccine, please contact the Harper County Health Department at (620) 842-5132.
Jan. 12, 2022:
Because of a statewide shortage of COVID-19 testing supplies, Patterson Health Center will not be able to do its free Monday-Friday testing until further notice.
We apologize for any inconvenience, and are working with KDHE to obtain testing supplies. Please continue to follow us on Facebook for updates.
COVID-19 UPDATE:
Dec. 27, 2021:
Patterson Health Center is changing its COVID-19 testing procedure.
Starting Monday, Dec. 27, those who need to be tested for COVID-19 should drive up to the COVID-19 testing cottage, which will be in front of PHC. A staff member will be inside the building from 8-9 a.m. Monday through Friday.
When driving into Patterson Health Center parking lot, go right around the front circle and drive up to the window. Staff will swab from the cottage. Staff will either call with results, or patients can park and wait.
For those who can not make the 8-9 a.m. time slot, call PHC at (620) 914-1200 to get tested. PHC offers rapid antigen tests and nasalpharyngeal PCR tests.
Nov. 8, 2021:
Because of a decrease in COVID-19 cases in Harper County, patients may now have 2 visitors in the hospital and clinic. Also the cafe is open, but seating is limited.
Wednesday, Oct. 25:
With a continued increase of COVID-19 in Harper County, Patterson Health Center is taking the steps to keep staff and patients safe.
Until further notice, the following changes are effective immediately:
- Free testing is available from 8-9 a.m. Monday through Friday at the south entrance;
- Limit one (1) visitor in the clinic and the hospital, no visitors are allowed for COVID-19 patients;
- The hospital cafe is only open to staff and group therapies;
- No drug or sales representatives are allowed in the building;
- No outside groups are allowed in the building.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Friday, July 16, 2021:
In an effort to remain in compliance with new federal regulations mandated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), seating is once again limited in the Patterson Health Center café and community education room.
We do offer TO-GO boxes and outside seating, but we ask that everyone observes the social distancing guidelines.
We respectfully ask those visiting Patterson Health Center to observe posted signage and to continue wearing a face mask. We understand and share your frustration with the new regulations, and we thank you for your cooperation.
What won't change is the personal caring you will receive from the healthcare team here at Patterson Health Center.

These changes are effective today, July 15. A comprehensive list of those individuals needing to quarantine includes visitors and Kansans who have:

- Traveled on or after July 1 to Namibia.
- Traveled on or afterJune 17 to Kuwait or Mongolia.
- Traveled on or after June 3 to Colombia.
- Traveled on or after May 6 to Seychelles.
- Traveled on or after April 22 to Argentina.
- Traveled between July 1 and July 15 to Brazil, Oman or Saint Kitts and Nevis.

The travel quarantine period is sevendays with a negativetest result or 10 days without testing, with release from quarantine on Day 8 and Day 11, respectively.
Further information on quarantine periods can be found on KDHE’s website. For those traveling internationally, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is requiring testing within three days of flights into the U.S. For further information on this and other requirements, visit their website. For those who are fully vaccinated (meaning it has been greater than two weeks since they completed their vaccinations) they are not required to quarantine regarding travel if they meet all of the following criteria:
- Are fully vaccinated (i.e., ≥2 weeks following receipt of the second dose in a 2-dose series, or ≥2 weeks following receipt of one dose of a single-dose vaccine).
- Have remained asymptomatic since the travel.Persons who do not meet the above criteria should continue to follow current quarantine guidance for travel.
Additionally, people with previous COVID-19 disease are not required to quarantine following travel if they meet all of the following criteria:
- Have evidence of a previous infection supported by a positive PCR or antigen test
- Are within 6 months following infection. If an investigation was done documenting the date that symptoms resolved, or the date isolation measures were discontinued for asymptomatic patients, then the 6-month period can start from that end date. If those dates are not available, then the period will start from the date of the positive laboratory test. A serology or antibody test may not be substituted for a laboratory report of a viral diagnostic test.
- Have remained asymptomatic since the travel
Persons who do not meet all three of the above criteria should continue to follow current quarantine guidance for travel. The travel quarantine list is determined using a formula to evaluate new cases over a two-week period, then adjusted for population size to provide a case rate per 100,000 population. This provides a number that can then be compared to the rate in Kansas. Locations with significantly higher rates --approximately 3x higher --are added to the list. For more information on COVID-19, please visit the KDHE website at www.kdhe.ks.gov/coronavirus.

Quarantine Guidelines Updated December 8, 2020
7 Day QUARANTINE (Person being tested and having no symptoms.)
You must remain symptom free for the duration of a 7-day quarantine.
On or after Day 6 of exposure, the individual may get a PCR Test. Make sure that you are getting the correct test, antigen and antibody tests are not accepted.
If the PCR Test is negative and you remain symptom free, you may return to normal activity on Day 8.
If you are still waiting for results on Day 7, you must remain in quarantine until the results are received.
What happens if I develop symptoms consistent with COVID-19 while I am in quarantine?
Symptoms of COVID-19 include a measured fever of 100.4 (F) or higher and lower respiratory symptoms like coughing or shortness of breath. If the symptoms you develop during your 14-day quarantine are mild and you normally would not seek healthcare, stay home for a minimum: • 10 days from the onset of symptoms OR • 72 hours after fever is gone without the use of fever reducing medication AND there has been a significant improvement in symptoms • WHICHEVER IS LONGER.
If you have shortness of breath and need to call 911, notify the dispatch personnel that you may have been exposed to COVID-19, are awaiting COVID-19 test results or are a case of COVID-19. If possible, put on a facemask before emergency medical services arrive. If you have a question about getting tested for COVID-19, call your Patterson health care provider at 620-914-1200 or your local health department. If you have general questions, contact your local county health department, or KDHE at 877-427-7317.
If I develop symptoms consistent with COVID-19 while I am in quarantine, and my test comes back negative, do I still need to finish out my 14-day quarantine? Yes, you will need to finish your 14-day quarantine. A negative test result does not allow a patient to end quarantine early.
Do I need to be in isolation if I am waiting for test results? Yes, if you are considered a Person Under Investigation • A Person Under Investigation (PUI) is someone who is suspected of having COVID-19 disease because of symptoms or exposure (travel-related or exposure to a known case). A person who is being tested for COVID-19 because they are suspected of having the disease is required to be in isolation until test results are received. No, if you are being tested for another purpose, such as a test before surgery (i.e. pre-operative screening test) you are not required to isolate while waiting for results. Possible outcomes of the test result include: •
If the test result is positive, then the person becomes a case.If the test result is negative and the person has a known exposure (travel-related or exposure to a known case), then the person must finish their quarantine period, or • If the test result is negative and there was no known exposure, then the person is released from isolation.
** Household contacts are still required to quarantine during and after the positive household member is released from isolation.
** Residents in long-term care and assisted living facilities as well as offender populations in Kansas Dept of Correction prisons, are not eligible for shortened quarantine periods.
**During this time, do not take over the counter medication without discussing it with your primary care provider.
