Dialysis
Patterson Health Center is proud to introduce hemodialysis, a lifesaving treatment for patients with end stage renal failure. The center is a hospital-based unit with two dialysis stations.
Dialysis is a treatment that does the work of the kidneys. It cleanses the blood by removing waste and excess water. With hemodialysis, the patient's blood is passed through an artificial kidney machine. Dialysis care at PHC is propvided by a team of professionals. Dr. Levi Short, nephrologist, serves as the medical director.
Tips:
Hemodialysis is available Monday, Wednesday and Friday at Patterson Health Center. A treatment typically takes 4 hours. While we have reading material at the hospital, patients are welcome to bring anything they'd like to work on while they're waiting. Please make the most of your dialysis time.
We encourage dialysis patients to be a part of their treatment team. They should be active in the treatment plan to help make the best decisions for their health. Keep track of what the doctor and nurses tell you by taking notes. It is also helpful to involve family in the conversations.
It is important that patients stick to a healthy diet.
