Family Nurse Practitioner from American Academy of Nurse Practitioners
Please tell us about your previous career experience:
ER/Trauma nurse at Via Christi St Francis from 2008-2017. Also a flight nurse for three years during this while going to school. APRN at Medicine Lodge Memorial Hospital from 2017 to present. Also work in the ER at Via Christi St Francis as a nurse practitioner for the same years.
What made you decide to pursue medicine?
I was originally going to be a vet as a child. In college to obtain enough credits to graduate I took the EMT class and fell in love with medicine and the rest is history.
What part of health care interests you the most and why?
I will always hold a soft spot for emergency medicine. Women's health also is of interest to me.
Who has been the most influential person in your life and why?
My aunt Wanda. From a very early age she encouraged me to do whatever I tried for regardless of how others view it. She has definitely been my rock through some very hard times in life.
What do you enjoy the most about working with patients?
I get to take care of patients of all ages. When I was working in the ER it was very impersonal and fast-paced so you did not get to know them. I now enjoy being able to sit down with a patient and get to know them as a person rather than their disease process.
Outside of health care, what talents do you like to do?
I love to read and hang out with my family. My son is 18 and graduated and my daughter is 14 and a Freshman at Attica High School. I collect turtles. We also have four dogs-2 English bulldogs, 1 wheaten terrier and a corgi.
What is your favorite television show?
Golden Girls
What do you wish more people knew about your profession? No two days at work are ever the same. Working in rural healthcare has a definite advantage of getting to genuinely know your patients and their families. We think about you even after your appointments are over.
Is there anything else you think we should know about you that makes you unique or sets you apart?
I grew up in Zenda.
